Avar Timeline

Year – Event
c. 100 AD – Christianity fades in the Roman Empire and becomes dominant in Ethiopia where it spreads across sub-Sharan Africa. The Ethiopian language becomes ingrained as classical language much like Latin was for Europe in the Earth timeline.
c. 450 AD – Europe slips into a dark age after the fall of the Western and Eastern Roman Empires. Other than trade, this has little effect on the growing African states. Because of this, technology grows more rapidly in the Avar timeline. (After the 10th century, Avarian technology becomes, in general, five hundred years more advanced than technology in the Earth timeline.)
c. 500 AD – Over the centuries as cultural and political influence shifts to west Africa, the Bantu languages mix with Ethiopian and create the Vantu language.
c. 570 AD – Mohamed is not born. Islam does not exist in the Avar Timeline.
940 AD – The Age of Ca-lonec begins (AKA the Age of Exploration and Discovery) as seafaring Africans explore regions across the globe. The slave trade, which had been a part of most cultures throughout history, became dominant as the Vantu discovered less advanced civilizations. The Vantu states of Akan, Yoruba, and Kumbi, thrive in bringing cheap slave labor from the Americas, Europe, southeast Asia, and the Indian sub-continent.
992 AD – The Age of Colonization begins as the Vantu settle the Americas (North and South), India, and the Pacific.
1212 AD – The Age of Gnosis begins (AKA the Industrial Revolution) in the American state of Gao. This starts a transition to new standardized manufacturing processes based on steam and coal and eventually petroleum. The Vantu language rises to world-wide dominance and remains the lingua franca until the Time war in the 21st century.
1350 AD – The Age of Eschaton begins (AKA the Information Age) with the invention of the first transistor. Subsequent advances in digital computers mirror that of the Earth Timeline. Social repercussions vary. Global, social unrest and crime increase as societies struggle with change and abandon traditional values.
1420 AD – With instantaneous, global communication, traditional cultures clash with global multiculturalism. Giant technology companies fuse with governments to create the technocratic authoritarianism states. Civil liberties are suppressed as all transactions and communications are monitored and graded with a social credit score. The lower a citizen’s social credit score is, the fewer things the person can do such as buying and selling and access to community resources. The “anti-socials” are encouraged to raise their scores by enrolling in re-education camps.
1440 AD – The AI Wars begin.
1483 AD – The Nanite War begins (see Death Has No Shadow).
1491 AD – The fear of Cyber-crimes, bioterrorism (engineered viruses), and other threats give techno-states an excuse to adopt radically new surveillance policies. Advanced AI (Artificial Intelligence) units created by the techno-states extend surveillance with predictive protocols. Recorded crime is reduced to near zero as the AIs are able to predict if a citizen will commit a crime or begins to deviate from the norm.
1542 AD – Economic collapse follows simultaneous grassroots rebellions against the techno-states. The impoverished nations to the north in Europe and Asia remain a century or more behind the Vantu in technological development.
2007 AD – New Renaissance and Reformation: Out of the ashes, new states and alliances arise with a common theme guaranteeing personal liberties and privacy as part of mankind’s unalienable rights under God. These rights are safeguarded by hardcoding liberty protections into AI hardware. Lost sciences and technologies are rediscovered, yet the impoverished nations in Europe and Asia remain a century or more behind the Vantu in technological development.
2020 AD – A meteorite strike shows evidence of sentient, extra-terrestrial life. Hachiman settles on the moon as an observer.
2078 AD – Cybernetic Age begins with the development of graphene-responsive bio-implants. Technological innovation surpasses levels before the economic collapse. Within a generation, cybernetics become commonplace. Life recordings are possible in which a person’s mental essence (memories, personality, hope, and dreams) can be downloaded. Ethical controversy arises concerning the morality of “soul clones”—downloading a life recording into an android or into an “empty” human body. Fears arise of another tech-revolution and dark age.
2178 AD – Starting in the late 22nd Century, the Vantu upper-class begins to hide their cybernetic implants in an effort to retain their humanity. Showing cybernetics was considered passé. The abilities of cybernetics increasingly reflected class structure. The upper-class expanded their ability of knowledge and health through cybernetics, whereas the lower-class was forced out of necessity to undergo implantation of cybernetics for utilitarian uses, harvesters, miners, mechanics, drivers, soldiers, etc.
2215 AD – The Harshan Confederation is founded. The disenfranchised third-world European nations form a confederacy to compete with the Vantu Empire.
2280 AD – Plexus beds become commercially available. VR is used to teach children empathy for their pre-cybernetic heritage (see Cohesion Lost).
2298 AD – Forward Time Travel is successful.
2322 AD – Temporal Shells are sold commercially. They allow the preservation of perishables by putting them in a temporally static state. This is used mostly for food and historical documents.
2364 AD – The first controlled, man-made singularity lasts for 35 microseconds at the Umar Collider. Hachiman intervenes for the first time.
2399 AD – Communication made through a man-made singularity.
2426 AD – Mapping of local primordial black holes begins.
2427 AD – First human travels backward in time. Hachiman intervenes again. Vantu government announces that it has broken the time barrier.
2432 AD – Recorders sent into the past to record history
2449 AD – The Tamarin is launched to probe the past. The Ox Shalay controls singularity seed deployment and activation.
2488 AD – The Tamarin is refitted as a military vessel.
2508 AD – The Water War (a conflict over water rights starts between the Harshan and Vantu) spreads globally.
